Synopsis
Milan is off to spend the summer with his eccentric uncle, who lives in an old farm house and makes a living as a taxidermist. The air smells of dust, animal hides, and forgotten secrets - and the barn is filled with foxes, badgers, and owls frozen in stiff poses. But something is different this summer. Milan has been rejected by the art school he applied to because his drawings are too stiff and lack life.
However, when Milan encounters a mysterious beast, his drawings begin to change, and he is awakened by a force he does not understand. A black whirlwind of shadow creatures takes shape - and Milan must choose whether to tame the wildness... or become a part of it.
Reviews
"An intense, richly descriptive, and magical horror story in which the real blends with the unreal, creating a creeping sense of dread that intensifies as you read. The book’s slow pace and evocative language - which almost makes the smells of Anton’s barn seep right out of the pages - combine with Milan’s illustrations (depicting the scenes before and after the encounter with the beast) to heighten the sense of unease (...)" – (Library Review (Lektørudtalelse)
