The Day Leopold turned Mean

Den dag Leopold blev ond

A Danish children's book classic, the picture book series now counts 8 books, as well as memory games and a cute teddy. The books are about emotions, something that never goes out of fashion. On the contrary, talking about emotions is more relevant now than ever before.

Dina Gellert (b. 1961) has drawn a wealth of children's books and her style is often described as happy, naive and humorous in the best senses of the words.

Synopsis

One morning when Leopold woke up, he felt strangely energised. His head bubbled and his pig toes tingled - but he wasn't happy, sad or angry. He had become... evil! It's not always easy to understand why someone suddenly turns mean. But there's usually a good explanation.

A wonderful reunion with Leopold, and a great opportunity to talk to each other about teasing and being nice to each other!

The stories about Leopold are humorous, and the language is subtle without any finger-pointing, even though the subject matter can be quite serious. It all takes place in a fun pig universe with lots of funny pig expressions. There's always a basis for a good laugh - for both children and their grown-ups - and a good chat about emotions!

Reviews

"Leopold gets angry and plans to run away from home while he enjoys thinking about how much his mum will miss him. The text and pictures are full of humour and it's easy to love the little piggy, even when he's in a bad mood" – (Lektørudtalelse (Library review)
