Dina Gellert

Danish author/illustrator behind a picture book series for the youngest children about the pig, Leopold.

Dina Gellert was born in 1961. She has drawn a wealth of children's books and her style is often described as happy, naive and humorous in the best sense of the word. By looking at the fun and very concrete drawings, children will enjoy the text and/or songs in the books even more.

She says:

‘For most of my adult life I have worked with cartoons both at home and in Paris. Working with animated films is technically and stylistically very bound.

Perhaps that explains my urge to work in multiple genres when creating children's books. I enjoy finding the mood, style and technique that I think suits each story and the age group it's written for. I work with pastels, oil pastels, wax crayons, coloured pencils, watercolours and acrylics. This has resulted in many titles - several of which I have written myself, including the Leopold books. If you want to capture a bit of your childhood, making children's books is a great way to do it.’
