Mette Marcussen graduated from the Danish School of Design in 1998, she made her debut the following year, and since then picture books have been her primary and special field of interest and work. She works in a playful and freely imaginative space in which she develops her illustrations. She has previously illustrated children's books by Naja Marie Aidt, Martin Glaz Serup and Kåre Bluitgen, and she has been nominated several times for the Ministry of Culture's Illustrator Award.
