Babak Vakili
Multi-talent behind popular tween series full of humour and heart
Babak Vakili (b. 1986) was born in Denmark and grew up in Nørrebro in Copenhagen. His parents are both from Iran, but fled their homeland in the wake of the 1979 revolution when Islamists took power.
He holds a Master's degree in Political Science from the University of Copenhagen and has rapped for many years under the aliases Vakili and Bobby Shams. Today he works as an author, screenwriter and podcast documentarian.
In 2023, Babak Vakili released First time I get rejected, part of a series of short texts about a first time that changes everything forever. The book depicts a young man's experiences of discrimination in nightlife and the powerlessness, humiliation and guilt it evokes.
Together with the illustrator, Mikkel Straarup Møller, he is the creator of the hugely popular graphic novel series about the gangster rapper, Anas Hashim.
