Karin Brunk Holmqvist (b. 1944) grew up in Österlen and as a little girl she dreamt of becoming a circus princess and a journalist. Sometimes she feels as if she became both. She has been a magician's assistant, a bikini model, a local politician and an actress until she started writing full time in 2004.
Karin's novels are all set in the same geographic area of Sweden, but their themes are universal and appeal to readers everywhere. Reminiscent of the movie House of Angels, her main characters are ordinary people who live ordinary lives until something happens that changes everything and brings spark and magic to their existence. She describes the meeting between young and old, old times and new times with warmth and empathy and her writing is suffused with that special humour and quirkiness that can also be found in the writings of Jonas Jonasson and Michael Niemi.
