Synopsis
This is the second volume in Karoline Stjernfelt's critically acclaimed series about Queen Caroline Mathilde's life with the mentally ill, King Christian VII, and his German physician, Johann Friedrich Struensee.
Queen Caroline Mathilde is exhausted by her marriage to the uncontrollable and schizophrenic King Christian VII. The king behaves unruly in the Copenhagen night, and his government duties are in disarray. The German physician, Johann Friedrich Struensee, is hired to keep a leash on King Christian VII. However, he quickly becomes involved in the government of the Danish kingdom and gets closer and closer to Queen Caroline Mathilde.
Karoline Stjernfelt brings the history of Denmark to life in a dazzling way in Tomorrow will be Better, which is filled with historical details, atmospheric drawings and interesting narrative and characterisations.
The first book in the series, Kongen (The King) was well received and won the Ping Award for Best Debut, as well as the Claus Deleuran Award in the same category in 2016, the Danish Arts' Council's Award for outstanding publication of 2015 and was shortlisted for the Danish BogForum Award for Best Debut of 2015.
