Synopsis
In October 1766, seventeen-year-old Christian the 7th marries his English cousin, Princess Caroline Mathilde. A young king with a fragile mind - and his imported child bride. Separately, they live a shadowy existence at Christiansborg: he as a confused figurehead in a so-called autocracy, she as a royal breeding machine.
At the same time, Johann Friedrich Struensee, the German city physicist in Altona, fights a silent battle for a decent life, for himself and for the weakest in society. All three share the hope that tomorrow will be better.
The first book in the series, Kongen (The King) was well received and won the Ping Award for Best Debut, as well as the Claus Deleuran Award in the same category in 2016, the Danish Arts' Council's Award for outstanding publication of 2015 and was shortlisted for the Danish BogForum Award for Best Debut of 2015.
