Signe Kjær knew she wanted to draw books from the age of seven. Today, she has illustrated over 30 books and in 2021 she was awarded the Ministry of Culture's Illustrator Award.

Here is what the Danish Arts' Foundation wrote about Signe when she was awarded with a working grant in 2026:
"Signe works exclusively in analog, and her pictorial universes are characterized by a sublime ability to communicate complex emotions. With pen and brush, she conveys experiences of both strange joy and disturbing pain, and her illustrations show in the most exquisite way how text and images can enrich each other and create an expanded space of experience."
