Hanne Dagmar Raaberg
An award-winning Danish children's book author
Hanne Dagmar Raaberg (b. 1969) has an MA in Rhetoric and is a graduate from the Author School of Children’s Literature in Copenhagen.
She made her debut as an author with Give Dad my Love (2017) – a read-aloud book about the soul and about longing, from a child’s perspective.
In 2023 her tween novel, PAPER HEARTS, a heart-warming tale about the summer before everything starts, was published. She won the Cultural Ministry’s Children’s and YA Author Prize with the following motivation:
”Paper Hearts is a moving and stylistically confident story about finding yourself and coming to the realisation that honesty about how you feel is one of the most important things you have. It is written in a form of easy-flowing broken prose (...). The graphic expression of the text follows the content - there are hearts, repetitions and the spaces between the words are also being used. Here too, Raaberg succeeds in making a classic device alive and new“
As a writer, Hanne Dagmar Raaberg is interested in big emotions and small details. She has written since she was a child, where her own moves and school changes have given her an eye for all that is unspoken in relationships and hierarchies. As an author, she puts herself loyally on the side of the child.
