Synopsis
In a small provincial town in Jutland, the young woman, Eva, has been struck by a great personal tragedy, having given birth to a stillborn child. The front garden is filled with unopened cardboard boxes containing the baby things she and her husband bought in time for the arrival. And in the bedroom, her husband is bedridden, having been hit by a sudden inexplicable paralysis, requiring her help in every way.
Then one sinister crime after the other starts hitting the little town: a coffin is dug up at the local grave-yard and the body is snatched, the only trace some strange Chinese letters left at the scene; a little girl is kidnapped from the playground in the kindergarten where Eva works; and an old woman disappears without a trace.
Eva starts to wake up from her state of shock and begins to piece together the traces that seem to be falling into her lap. She soon discovers that the past plays a sinister and completely overwhelming part…
