Synopsis

Millie is 17, recently out of school and doing an apprenticeship as an interior painter. Her old friends have all gone to college and she struggles to settle into her new life. She has five half-siblings and lives in youth housing, as neither her mum nor her dad has room for her in their new families. Always broke, her parents don’t shy away from borrowing money from her, even if she has very little for herself.

When her bike gets stolen and she is unable to commute to work, she is desperate to find a solution fast. She knows no one who can lend her the money, but then her neighbour, Natasha, who always has the hippest accessories, comes up with a suggestion. She can put Millie in touch with someone who will want to spend a little something on gifts in exchange for the company of a young girl – just to talk and do a bit of petting…

Reviews

"A strong YA novel about sugar-dating! An engaging and authentically narrated story about youth life under pressure; a life with no money and no support to be had from the family; a life where grey-zone prostitution becomes a desperate solution." – Susanne Dahl Jensen (DBC (Danish Library Centre))
